Added

• Autosave can be turned off, in Settings ▸ General ▸ "Save automatically while editing". With it off:
  • MarkOz saves only on ⌘S;
  • closing a window or quitting with unsaved changes asks: Save, Don't Save or Cancel.
• Unsaved changes are marked while autosave is off:
  • a * before the file name in the title and the tab;
  • a dot beside each sidebar section whose text differs from the saved file, in all three modes, in the colour opposite the accent (magenta with the cyan accent). VoiceOver reads it as "unsaved changes".
  • Undoing back to the saved text clears the marks.
• Text sizes, in Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Text Sizes, applied at once to every open window:
  • Reading text (Rendered), 14–22 pt;
  • Source text (Raw and Editor), 12–22 pt;
  • Sidebar and Status bar: Small, Medium or Large.
  • The zoom (⌘+ / ⌘−) still scales the reading and source text; the sidebar and the status bar don't zoom.
• Accent colour, in Settings ▸ Appearance ▸ Accent: Cyan (as before) or Magenta. Links, task boxes, the sidebar's active row, the selection, the source's markers and the mode control follow it, in every open window at once.

Changed

• The mode control's three segments have the same width, and the selected one takes MarkOz's accent instead of the system accent colour.
• The mode control's highlight slides to the chosen mode (it jumps when Reduce Motion is on).
• The sidebar has a little more room between rows. Its size now follows the Sidebar setting instead of macOS's "Sidebar icon size".
• Releases are signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple, so the disk image opens on any Mac without a Gatekeeper warning. MarkOz runs with the hardened runtime.

Fixed

• "Reopen files at launch" never brought windows back: document windows had no identifier, so macOS saved no state for them. Windows open at quit now come back at launch.
• New windows opened exactly on top of each other; each now opens a step right of and below the previous one.

Added

• markoz:// links open a Markdown file in MarkOz, in Rendered, even when .md files open in another app by default:
  • ?line=40 goes to the section holding that line;
  • #goals goes to that heading;
  • a link to a folder opens the Open panel there.

Changed

• Raw and Editor use Menlo at a slightly larger size (16 pt at 100%), with more space between lines. Emphasis shows in Menlo's real italic.
• Images under the automounter's network locations (/net, /home, /Network) are no longer shown; their alt text shows instead. Images on shares mounted under /Volumes still show. If your home folder is on the network, images in your documents and markoz://~/… links are affected.

Fixed

• Raw and Editor showed only line numbers, with no text. The line-number ruler painted the page colour over the text; since macOS 14 views are not clipped by default. The banner area had the same flaw.

Security

• Links:
  • links to network locations, such as /net, /home and /Network, are refused before the path is read;
  • so are links that reach a network location through a symlink, and names that differ only by case folding (ſ for s);
  • links never open the Editor;
  • error alerts show only the file name, never its folder.
• Images on network locations are never loaded, directly or through a symlink, so opening a document cannot mount a share or wait on a server.

Added

• Three modes, switched from the title bar (⌘1 / ⌘2 / ⌘3, also in the View menu):
  • Rendered: the formatted document.
  • Raw: the Markdown source, coloured and read-only, with line numbers.
  • Editor: the same source, editable.
• Your place is kept when you switch modes. The sidebar follows the source's headings in Raw and Editor.
• Editing tools:
  • Return continues a list, including numbered lists and tasks.
  • Tab and Shift-Tab indent.
  • A new Format menu: Bold ⌘B, Italic ⌘I, Code ⌘E and Link ⌘K.
  • Undo, Redo, Cut, Paste and Delete in the Edit menu.
• Autosave. MarkOz saves about a second after you stop typing, when you leave the Editor, when you close the window and when you quit. ⌘S saves at once. A dot in the close button marks unsaved edits, and the status bar shows the line, the column and whether the file is saved.
• Saving keeps the file as it was:
  • encoding and byte-order mark;
  • line endings;
  • permissions and extended attributes;
  • symlinks.
• Changes made outside MarkOz are never overwritten silently. If the file changes while you have unsaved edits, a banner lets you keep yours or use the disk version.
• CHANGELOG.md and scripts/release.sh, which publish each version as a GitHub release with its disk image.

Changed

• The disk image has a new look:
  • MarkOz on the left and Applications on the right, at 128 pt;
  • a Deep background with a glow behind each icon;
  • a rounded magenta arrow between the icons;
  • a cyan highlighter behind each name.
• Editing is disabled, with the reason shown, for files that are not UTF-8, that you cannot write, or that were removed.

Added

• Collapsible sections:
  • The frontmatter and every H2 and H3 section can be collapsed from an arrow in the margin.
  • ⌥-click toggles every section at the same level.
  • View → Collapse All (⌃⌘←) and Expand All (⌃⌘→).
  • Each file remembers which sections are collapsed.
• Find (⌘F) opens collapsed sections that contain the search and closes them again when find closes.
• Links, the sidebar and "next task" open collapsed sections on the way to their target.
